What every boiler price includes.
The price for each boiler is for a straight swap: a new combi in the same spot as the old one. It covers:
- New boiler fitted in the same spot, with the installation pack and all connections
- Output set to suit your home
- System flush and corrosion inhibitor
- System filter, scale filter and shock arrestor
- Commissioned to our own checklist, beyond the manufacturer's requirements
- Gas Safe notification and manufacturer warranty registered for you
- Old boiler taken away and recycled where possible; we tidy up
We work it out the same way every time: the boiler, our installation package and the ESi thermostat, plus VAT, rounded down to the nearest £10. Rounding always goes your way.
Why boiler prices vary.
Two homes with the same boiler can pay different amounts. It's rarely the boiler itself. It's what needs doing around it. These are the things that change the price, and how we handle each one.
Changing the type of boiler
If you have a system boiler (with a hot water cylinder) or a regular boiler (a cylinder plus a tank in the loft), going to a combi means the cylinder and tanks come out and the pipework changes. That's +£1,200. A back boiler behind a gas fire is a bigger job again: the fire comes out too. That's +£1,920. More on back boilers.
Moving the boiler
A new spot means a new route for the flue, the gas pipe, the water pipes and the condensate drain, then making good the old wall. Every house is different, so Tom prices it from your photos, usually the same day. What a move involves.
The flue
Our prices are for a flue straight out through the wall, the usual way a combi is fitted. If yours needs to go up through the roof, or a long way to reach outside, Tom will spot it in your photos and it'll be on your quote before you say yes.
The gas pipe
A combi needs enough gas to heat water on demand. In some older homes the gas pipe to the boiler is too narrow and needs upgrading. Again, Tom checks it from your photos, so it's never a surprise on the day.
Controls and extras
A basic touch-screen thermostat is included. A Hive thermostat you can use from your phone is +£90, and Vaillant's smart controls, which adjust to the weather, are +£531. If your radiators are cold at the bottom or slow to heat, a powerflush is +£900.
Why our prices are fixed.
A lot of "from" prices grow once someone has been round. Ours don't. You see the full, itemised price online. Tom checks your photos and confirms it before any work starts. After that, that's the price, held for 10 days. Nothing is added on the day, and there are no hidden extras.
